Requesting a Ranking upgrade
The concept of Ranking is difficult to comprehend for many Referees. We have create a Ranking Matrix in an effort to provide a visual that show how we relate the numerical value of your ranking to the level of games we service. If you read the matrix left to right you will see the leagues we service grouped by category and within category by ascending level of difficulty or service level.
Level of Difficulty is easy to understand, but misunderstood. For example doing a Premier BU19 may be easier than doing a Rec BU19 because the players are actually playing soccer, which is why one of the other factors in ranking the games is Service Level. Service level is related to the expectations of the clients (Association/Club/Team/Players/Parents). Another good example of this is the High School games which by and large are easier than most games, but at the Varsity Level they demand a high service level.
Our Ranking Matrix makes an attempt to factor both of these variables. But that is NOT why you are here!
By now you are certain you are ranked tooooooooooooooooooo looooooooooooooooooow: And that may be true. With over 700 Referees it is easy to get lost in the vastness of things. As such we depend on you to monitor your rankings and alert us when they are too low. But just saying they are too low is risky and will likely yield a bad result that is either wrong or simply takes too long. You can solve both of these problems by providing us with INFORMATION. It is that simple!
Keep in mind that Ranking serves one and only one purpose. It lets you selfassign. We strongly believe in selfassign as you and you alone (well perhaps your wife/husband/mom/dad/nanny/boyfriend/girlfriend) know your schedule best. But keep in mind that ranking is only one of many rules.
OKAY, so what is the Information we need.
1) We need to know your Youth and Adult and School game counts (approximately) and at what level. U15 is not good enough (look at the matrix and you will see why). Rather we need numbers at the Recreational level, Select level and Premier level for youth; for Adult we need Recreational and Competitive; for High School we need levels, like Middle School, Cteam, JV, Varsity. And lastly don't forget to include Gender as this is important.
2) We need to know what level of Assignments you would be comfortable selfassigning. Same basis of information as in (1)
3) It helps if you have been in any of the Semi-Final camps for State Cups, State Cup Finals, Regionals, Competative Adult Tournaments, State High School Finals, etc... (so tell us)
4) It helps if you are a player or coach, and at what levels..... (so tell us)
5) RECOMMENDATIONS: Unless we are very familiar with you (e.g. it is likely we don't know you) how can you expect us to make the correct decision based solely on what you tell us. We need recommendations from Assignors, Senior Referees, etc..... include names, email addresses, phone numbers and better yet have them send us an email to our Ranking Committee Chair at JeffIsaacson@ekcsra.org.
